Protect Your Baby From Diaper Rash

Diapers let parents take their babies out without having to worry about them dirtying their clothes. They are comfortable for both the parents and the tots. But some times, this can backfire. Baby's soft bottom is then converted into irritating swamp. Babies cry and their bottoms itch. But the good news is that most of the times, the rash clears up within a day. But in certain cases, it can linger on for a few days. This can keep your child irritated for days on end. But you can follow some simple home remedies and keep away the rash,

Here are some simple tips that can avoid or treat the diaper rash:

* Use gel disposable diapers: If you choose the disposable diapers, choose the diapers with the latest absorbent gelling material. These diapers remove the dampness away from the skin than the other types of diapers. They also keep the skin's pH level more acidic, thus decreasing the chances of suffering from diaper rashes. All the leading brands of diapers have this gelling material.

* Wash the cloth diapers with vinegar: If you choose to go in for reusable cloth diapers, rinse them in vinegar at the time of wash to change the pH and reduce the chances of diaper rash. Add a quarter cup of plain white kitchen vinegar to each load of diapers during the final rinse cycle of the wash. Avoid using the fabric softeners during the washing of the diapers because they put a coating on the diapers that prevents them from absorbing as well,

* Apply warm cornstarch: Instead of using the modern talcum powders available for treatment of diaper rash, use cornstarch. Take cornstarch and spread it out on the baking pan and warm it in the oven at the temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit for about ten minutes till it is completely dry. Test the temperature first and then apply it gently to the baby's bottom. Cornstarch is as smooth as the commercially available talcum powder but is cheaper and more effective.

* Blow dry the bottom: Keep the infected area dry and clean to speed up the healing. Do not use a towel to clean the area as it can be very abrasive. Instead use a hair dryer set on low or cool for three minutes to dry the infected area.

* Avoid using diapers: The best solution is to avoid using diapers so that the skin can air itself as much as possible to promote healing. But if it is not possible, keep the diaper under the baby when it is lying on its stomach. This can be done when it is sleeping or any other times when it is still.

* Choose paper instead of plastic: If the baby has excess leakage, which can lead to diaper rash, keep a paper towel between its skin and diaper. The paper towel helps in stopping the leakage without blocking air circulation. The drawback of plastic is that it seals the moisture thus increasing infection.

* Breastfeed the baby: Babies who have been breastfed since birth show a lower incidence and severity of diaper rash than those who have been fed baby formula. The effects of dietary influence are seen even after the babies are weaned.

* Avoid soap and baby wipes: Stop using soap and baby wipes if your child has the rash. Commercially available wipes contain alcohol that can aggravate the rash and cause more pain. Some of them can also cause the rash due to the presence of certain chemicals. Soap is very harsh on the sensitive skin and the baby should be washed without soap if it is suffering from diaper rash.

Product Review: The Do It Yourself Cloth Diapering Handbook

Pregnant and thinking of using cloth diapers? This handbook will give you all the information you will ever need!

The best part of the Diapering Handbook (other than it's extreme detail) is it's spiral binding. Those with children know how difficult it can be to read anything while tending to a child. Should you need a quick tip (which as some point, you probably will), the book can be handled easily with one hand.

Included with the handbook is also a Cloth Diaper Business Directory, which lists tons of businesses that sell cloth diapers and accessories. It is not just listings though - the directory includes businesses in US, Canada, and Australia complete with what type of products they offer, contact information, plus shopping related notes (shipping info, discounts, payment plans, etc). There's even room for notes to let you comparison shop and a page for buying/selling record keeping.

My impression of this book is a resounding "WOW!". Even if you are just thinking about using cloth diapers, this handbook gives you all the pros and cons to both disposables and cloth. You are taken through every tiny step from choosing the type of diapers, what supplies to use, how to get started, and of course - how to use cloth diapers.

In the first chapter, it explains the health hazards (both to child and environment) of disposable diapers, backed by several published research sources. It assures you that cloth diapers are not as difficult or inconvenient as it may first seem.

In the next several chapters, the handbook explains the many types of cloth diapers with pictures as examples, as well as details about diaper covers and supplies. With this handbook, you'll be able to make better choices on what type of cloth to buy, and what their purposes are. Did you know there are even cloth diapers made for night and swimming? The handbook explains those types of cloth diapers too! Recipes are also included for making your own natural baby wipe solution.

After you learn about the supplies needed, you'll be ready to get started. There's an entire chapter on buying and selling new or used diapers. You'll learn where to buy them, and what to look for.

Next of course comes using the cloth diapers. The handbook teaches how to fasten diapers, how to stuff pocket diapers, changing a dirty diapers, what to do about diaper rash and it's causes, diapering on the go, and the many ways to fold cloth diapers. Folding techniques are broken down by type of cloth diaper (flatfold or prefold), as well as a chapter on night time diapering. There's even a chapter on what to do in an emergency if you run out of clean diapers!

There's still more to this handbook though. Extra chapters include storing dirty diapers and laundering tips, each with wonderful detail.

Every situation you can possibly think of is included "The Do It Yourself Cloth Diapering Handbook", making it a must have for any mother-to-be, or anyone looking for information on cloth diapering.

Motherhood Naturally also offers a large selection of unique natural parenting products in addition. Catalog information can be found at their website.

The Benefits of Discount Adult Diapers

Millions of Americans suffer from varying degrees of incontinence. Because of this, the market for adult diapers has become a big business. Anyone who has experienced incontinence for prolonged period of time can tell you that buying disposable adult diapers can become a very significant investment.

Because disposable diapers can become very expensive, people have begun to research ways to buy discount adult diapers. With a little investment in time and persistence in your research, you should be able to find diapers below retail cost. A good way to begin your search is by using an Internet search engine such as Google.

Perhaps one of the best ways to get discount adult diapers is buying them in bulk. For people who suffer from moderate to severe incontinence, this is likely the most cost effective option. You know you will need the diapers and if you choose to go the disposable-diaper route, having plenty on hand is always a good idea. Some manufacturers and resellers offer volume discounts. You can find many stores that offer $5, $10 and even $15 off when you buy a case of discount adult diapers.

Large discount stores such as Sam's Clubs and Costco are also good places to locate deals for discount adult diapers. Since you are buying large quantities with each purchase, the stores are able to offer discounts. You can save upwards of 20% in some cases, which can add up to huge long-term savings. Having a stockpile of adult diapers is ideal for many who do not want to worry about running out or spending more than they have to.

Although incontinence is not necessarily a part of growing older, many older people suffer from the disorder. Because many of these older people live on stringent budgets, finding ways to cut costs is essential. Cloth diapers involve a one-time investment but can be less accessible and convenient than disposable diapers. There are many options out there to help you find discount adult diapers. You just need to spend a little time researching what options are available and shop around for the best prices.
